India International Trade Fair-2011: Delhi to bring alive Shahjahanabad

The Delhi Pavilion will showcase a wide range of handicrafts, gems, jewellery and ivory products at the fortnight-long India International Trade Fair-2011 opening at Pragati Maidan here on November 14.

Managed by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation on behalf of the State Government, the theme this year is “Indian Handicrafts: The Magic of Gifted Hands”. Interestingly, the Delhi Pavilion has been named “Dehleez”.

According to DSIIDC Chairman-cum-Managing Director Chetan Sanghi, the ambience of the pavilion from the main entrance will relate to the Shahjahanabad period. “On display will be six important crafts that developed during this period including zardozi, minakari work and lacquer work,” he added.

As the people of Delhi are aesthetically conscious, the exhibition has been made an interactive one.

“Workshops will be conducted in which craftspersons will comprehensively explain the process of making their products. They will also give a live demonstration,” he added.

Data from various departments will be used to display various achievements made since Delhi became the Capital during the British rule a century ago.
