8 one 9 unveils the most exclusive international
range of gift items. It offers wide range of artifacts
and other household utility items like hand painted
glassware, candle stands, photo frames, clocks etc.
It's the brainchild of Gulshan Sawhney, Sandeep
and Priti Sabhherwal. Basically the company had
started off with customized Italian kitchens, which
were imported from abroad.
 The
showroom is into retail and supplies it to the shopkeepers
as well. As Gulshan Sawhney one of the owners
puts it, "We started this business in 1999. We
are into exports and imports of foreign goods and we
go abroad very often. It is on these trips we saw things,
which were not available in India. Even if you go and
hunt you wouldn't find such things in Delhi. So that's
when we thought to import them here. We have been importing
stuff like carpets, furniture, kitchens, so then we
thought, we might as well start with the gift items
as well."
 The
quaint little showroom is all done up in wood and the
products stacked up neatly on wooden and glass shelves.
The bright lights further enhance the look of the products.
The products range include glassware, trays, mats,
cocktail napkins, glass flowers, vases, clocks, photo
frames, decoration pieces, jars and designer wrapping
papers.
They have leading brands of choicest imported gift
articles and novelties. Women form the major thrust
of their customers, as they know what they want for
their homes. Many house-proud women come and buy a variety
of stuff to decorate their homes.
 The
name '8 one 9' sounds different, right? It is
due to the fact that the address of the place is 8/19
so the name came from there and it's now known as 8
one 9 collections.
Prices of the articles sold by them range from anywhere
between Rs 60 to Rs 60,000. Sawhney further elaborates,
"We have our own fixed clientele, because we also
deal in kitchens. We have a list of 350-500 clients
and whenever we get something from abroad or have some
new stuff, we mail and inform them, so that they can
come and shop. We visit a lot of fairs abroad and choose
the best possible stuff out there. We want to provide
the best, tasteful and the most unique stuff to our
customers."
They also retail from their showroom franchise called
