Meena Deora - Giving a touch of class

Fossils 97- Oil on canvas 45"x60"
Meena Deora's figures assay to capture general abstract sentiments commonly shared by the projected figures, the external stances trying to bring glimpses of the interior essence.

Having studied at Triveni Kala Sangam under the guidance of Mr. Rameshwar Broota, Meena was awarded a scholarship for 2 years by the Department of Culture, Government of India. Meena is an Inderpuri based painter who has received an award from the Sahitya Kala Parishad.

In the works of Meena, human and animal figures are in stark colours, and she ably creates contrast which allows the light to penetrate the forms. She has participated in a number of art shows which include Auction of Art India: The Passionate Detachment presented by OSIANS and curated by Neville Tuli in Mumbai, National Exhibition of Lalit Kala Akademi, Art for Ashraya Show at Chitrakala Parishat, Bangalore, Biennial Show of Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal, Annual Sahitya Kala Parishad Mela in Delhi and the Annual All India Shows of All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society, Delhi.

Pillared 97-Oil on canvas 72"x72"Speaking on her art she says, "The past lays the foundation for the present and history becomes an integral part of our subconscious mind. My paintings are figurative expressions of the scenes from the historical epic like settings as viewed through my eyes. The relationship between man and time, man and environment forms the backgrounds of my works".

Men and animals float on the canvases of Meena Deora. The stark contrast of hues easily permits light to enter into her subjects, which makes her paintings more evocative. Her collections can be found at Pundole Art Gallery in Mumbai, Sahitya Kala Parishad, MIC art gallery, Hotel Ashok, and at several private collections in India and abroad.

In addition, she has completed a project of 6 paintings for Hotel Training Institute at the ITDC Gwalior. Meena goes for mankind and its own self-image, that remembrance of the self-wrought past, etc. Her works are oil-on canvas and her figurative works are well handled. Meena attended the Art Camp at 'The Claridges' Corbett Hideaway at Dhikuli Ram Nagar and also another at the Manali Art Camp in Beyond the truimphs of life 97-Oil on canvas 45"x80"Himachal Pradesh. These art camps helped her emerge as a better artist. Meena feels that, "Man in a universal relationship in the past, present and future is insignificant yet all persuasive. The large number of figures of human beings and animals painted with oil on canvas in the background of different colours reflect different time zones through which the history has passed. The strokes of thick colours depict the large number of persons hidden behind the figure".

Meena's group showing includes KALEIDOSCOPE' - an exhibition of contemporary Indian Art organized by ISU International Art Gallery and
Mrs. Rachna Anand in Singapore 2001.
