A source of light

These art pieces give a reflection of the renaissance era. The masterpieces in glass are a source of light soothing the environment around you. Each piece has been done delicately to perfection. And the person behind these exotic creations is Meenakshi Salve, whose hands are a gift to the glass. Most of her pieces are designed in the shape of a lamp and she prefers calling them a "a source of light". She mastered this 12th century art in New York. This type of art is reminiscent to what one finds in the renaissance churches.

Her foray into the world of glass just happened. After doing her course in Textile Designing she held exhibitions but was not satisfied by designing clothes. It was when she was redoing her house that she discovered her passion for creating things with glass. She did most of the glass work of her house. Since then there has been no looking back.

Her hands work sheer magic on glass. Each art piece involves lot of handiwork and time. The lamps are not made out of one piece of glass but small pieces that are joined together to make one big masterpiece. One thing to be noticed in these art pieces is that they are not painted but the design is made by cutting the glass pieces and fitting them like a jigsaw puzzle into the required design. Each masterpiece takes nothing less then 100 hours. The work is so intricate that one has to be very careful while cutting a small piece of glass. The creation of one lampshade took 432 hours that had 1000 glass pieces cut and joined.

Besides Lampshades she has designed many panels and windows and doors. Her creations are exclusive and there is no repetition in her work. The coloured glass she uses for her work is of very high quality and this makes her creations unique.
