Check
List for buying a second hand car
1. Check whether the lights, speedometer and the gauges
are working properly. See if all the levers work.
2. The headrest, seats and the door trims come with
plastic covers, you can ask a mechanic to help remove
them. See how the rear seats fold. Check the interior
lights and seat belts.
3. Check the doors, windows and the locks and see if
there are any odd squeaks and sounds.
4. Check the bonnet and the fuel cap cover levers.
5. Test the pressure while applying the hand brake
and the pedal brake. See that nothing is scratched,
broken or missing.
6. Roll up the windows and check for scratches.
7. If there are air conditioners and stereo decks,
check that they work properly. If possible, take the
stereo system out and test it.
8. Document checklist:
Ensure that the following documents are present:
- Receipt of payment to the dealer
- Owner manual and service book
- Car keys. There should be two copies
- The original and duplicate of the invoice
- Sales Tax and octroi certificate
- Registration certificate-RC book with an endorsement
of lifetime tax paid.
- PUC badge-For new cars PUC Certificate is valid
for one year
- Delivery note from dealer with time and date
- Insurance certificate
9. Finally, make sure that you are not buying a stolen
vehicle. Check with the police if you have to.
