Kanahi
A
ravishing tale of elegance. An engaging enigma. A sublime
picture of magnum opus. This is how Anita
Jindal’s designs lend eloquence to the beauty of
a woman. Anita who belongs to a Marwari family started
Kanahi as a hobby ten years ago and now it’s
a full swing production unit, producing simply stunning
outfits. The product range of Kanahi includes printed
sarees, bridal lenghas, salwar kameez etc. The price
range is from Rs 2000 to Rs 2-3 lakhs for the bridal
lenghas.
Anita also makes suits but they are semi- formal and
formal only because her main clientele is the Marwari
crowd and not much of Punjabi crowd buys from her. The
crowd which comes to her prefers sarees rather than
suits. Anita and her team design trousseau as well and
they make collections both for summer and winter. She
retails through her outlet in Punjabi Bagh by
the name of Kanahi.
According
to Anita, "I have a team of people, and
we develop the designs together. We use books, follow
trends, we create and then we develop the design and
work on it. We put up our stuff in exhibitions at places
like Hyderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi. Most of
my clients are from big industrial houses, high society
and rich Marwari families and they come from as far
as Faridabad, South Delhi and Noida. Clients
also come from Chandigarh, Mumbai and Hyderabad
and I am into readymade as also accept orders. My basic
aim is to create something unique and different each
time and in all my collections there is a lot of difference
from the previous one. I also specialize in printing
which is totally different from the prints you see in
the market, as I am doing my own block, colour combinations
and all. I also export my stuff. I also retail my stuff
through stores in Delhi (Anjuman) and Hyderabad. Supplying
is a totally different concept. I sell my stuff under
my own label."
Anita
uses varied types of material for her collections, from
imported to Indian and even a mix of both. If someone
has something in mind Anita can source the stuff and
create the ensemble. She uses fabrics, which she picks
up from different places and which are not commonly
available in the market. Her elegant drapes bring in
a charm that is so enticing and full of romance. With
pastels and earthy tones fine intricate work with striking
embellishments and a stately style bring to life sheer
magnificence to take one’s breath away.
Anita’s
family has been very supportive of her work. "My
husband encourages me a lot, and my family has always
encouraged and appreciated my work. My children have
taken to my venture very well. I work from home only
as it’s convenient for the children and me as well.
Evenings, I spend time with them. Future plans are to
expand this setup and I am also going to start selling
accessories with the sarees. The right accessories can
enhance the whole outfit."
Simple yet sensuous, elaborate yet elegant her designs
labeled Kanahi Fashions are an ode to
feminity, revealing the enigma and mystery behind the
magical moods of a woman of substance.
