A head
start for two-year-olds
Did you know that eighty percent of a child's brain is
formed before it is three years of age? No wonder, Mother's
Pride, chain of fully air-conditioned pre-nursery
schools, with its branches located at Paschim Vihar,
Punjabi Bagh and Pitampura in Delhi, have rich parents
in queue to get their two-year-olds admitted for a one-year
course so as to give them a head start in life.
The school Principal, Ms. Sudha Gupta, speaking
to indias-best.com, recalls the school's humble beginnings
at Paschim Vihar four years ago with just 25 students.
Today there are over 1,200 students in the three
branches of the school.
Ms. Gupta recalls that her school was the first, in 1997,
to introduce computer familiarity and computer education
for the two-year-olds, even in face of criticism by
sceptics. Today, the merit in Ms. Gupta's pioneering effort
has been borne out and the fully equipped Computer Labs
in the three branches are preparing the students early
for today's Information Technology era.
Not just the school, but also all the school buses
that take the students to and from the school are air-conditioned.
The cameras installed at strategic locations monitor
the activities of the children even as there is one teacher
for every eight students. Ms. Gupta talks about a child's
education being a question of input and output. The input
is the fun-filled activity in the school and the output
is a self-confident child with social skills and an all-rounded
personality.
Mother's Pride puts emphasis on inculcating values like
respect for elders and the virtues of hard work and a
positive attitude in the children so that they grow up
to be good citizens.
The colourful ambience in the entire school, as
also the plethora of soft toys, dolls and playhouses encourage
the child to enthusiastically take part in activities,
pleasantly surprising the parents, as the child's creativity
is unleashed.
Various events held in the school involve parents and
grandparents in the child's education and development.
Ms. Gupta believes that for a well-rounded development
of the child, not just the school, but also the parents
and grandparents should be involved in the schooling.
It is in this context that the school annually celebrates
the Grandparents' Day where the elderly sheltered
by the NGO Help Age India are also invited. Involving
grandparents in the school inculcates good family values
in the child.
The school also holds regular lecture sessions, say, with
the noted clinical psychologist Dr. Mrs. Aruna Broota,
who advises parents over the anxieties they have in bringing
up the child.
Without doubt, for those who can afford it, Mother's Pride
is grooming two-year-old children, helping them open out
and get an extrovert personality. This way the child gains
qualities of leadership that stand him or her in good
stead later in life.
Through various puzzles and group activities, the
school promotes logical and original thinking in the child,
prodding the innate inquisitiveness. The knowledge gained
consequently is just one part of the child's development,
which also includes the formation of a positive attitude
and the will to win.
The stage exposure and public speaking programmes for
the students help them shed their shyness and be spontaneous
participants in life. The ball pool, the swimming pool,
the doll house, the skating rink and even the toilets
are all designed with the child in mind and contribute
to the holistic development of the child's personality.
For Ms. Gupta, however, the burgeoning growth of the school
is as important as the satisfaction of doing something
she enjoys and pioneering a concept she firmly believes
in.
