DanzFitz is the place for dance lovers
Get
footloose and lose your soul to the most amazing dance
forms in the world. At Studio Danzfitz, you can
jive to the rhythm, be fancy free and have fun while
dancing. From
Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, Dirty dancing, salsa, Lambada, Ballroom,
Tango, Waltz, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Jive and funk, Latino and
party dance all are taught under one roof. One of its
kind in Delhi, Studio DanzFitz is a place for all the
dance lovers and dance enthusiasts.
Kiran who is fondly called Sir Kiran by his students has been teaching
dance since the last 12 years. He pursued his training
in Calcutta under a very renowned teacher
who is no more. He started his career from Delhi
School of Music and is still teaching there. Studio
DanzFitz is the brainchild of
Kiran, who has big names like the Reebok
Studio at GK, Club Excel,
YMCA Nizamuddin and American School on his CV.
As
many dance forms are taught at the Studio, care is taken
that they are categorized properly and separate days
and timings for each ensure that students can learn
in a systematic way. There are special workshops for
children between 8 to 15 years and weekend classes for
busy executives. The aerobics and fitness classes are
held 7 days a week for fitness buffs. The age group
is anywhere between 6 to 60 years. The corporates
and the CEOs
of major companies specially favour salsa
and Ballroom. They
come here to unwind after a hard day at office.
The army and the air force people
form a major chunk of the crowd.
Kiran is promoting Western classical dance in
a major way, as he even has a club called Full
Stop for Latino and ballroom dance. His students
are a part of this club and they can come and practice
their steps, as some of them are performers as well.
Kiran feels, "There is no other place in Delhi where this kind of music is played. All
discotheques usually play bhangra, remix, trance and
beats, so I felt the need for my students for such kind
of a club and the response has been overwhelming. I
make sure I have limited crowd, as I prefer having intelligent
and exclusive people - preferably the corporate crowd.
For membership the eligibility is that you should know
your dance well as ballroom and salsa consist of 40-50
dance steps. We play totally different kind of music
and people who don’t know cannot enjoy the ambience.
It’s unlike a disco where you can move in your own way.
If everyone is doing Cha cha cha you have to do that,
people have to learn before joining. I already have
100- 150 members and we invite 10 guests each time so
they know what we are teaching and can join the classes.”
Kiran
wants people to be aware of such dance forms, as not
many people know about the studio. Ashley Lobo
and Shimak Davar are totally in a different league
as they are teaching mostly on fast beats and indi-pop
and film music. At Studio DanzFitz the forms of dance
being taught is western classical, which is mostly taught
abroad. Sir Kiran
does not take people who want to learn dancing on Hindi
film music; he is also against forcing children to learn
dancing. He feels that the parents should not send their
children. "It should come from within the child,
as it is they who have to learn. So if the child come
on his/her own will, I takes them in," he says.
Different sort of dancing
takes different duration of time to learn. If Jazz is
like a Diploma course, tap is a degree course. Tap is
a bit difficult but on the other hand ballroom and salsa
are easier then jazz. Studio DanzFitz awards its own
certificate as well. Kiran has choreographed many stage shows including the one held recently
at Taj Palace
in Delhi for the Austrian
Embassy. The band was from Vienna
and there were 24 dancers on the floor. This event
was for the Gujarat earthquake cause.
According
to Kiran, "Slowly
people are getting aware of this form of dance because
all over the world, if you go to a party you’ll have
to do this form of dance. If you don’t know then you’ll
obviously feel out of place. For this type of dance
form you need proper space, atmosphere, different kind
of music and shoes. Ballroom is something you can do
in your normal outfits, so it’s a big hit with the corporate
big wigs. As of now I am also teaching at the British
High Commission during lunchtime as a part of their
stress relief programme. People there come running for
my classes during lunchtime and their enthusiasm really
warms my heart.”
