The perfect ambience for music lovers

The ambience is perfect for music lovers. If you are a music freak, check out Music Planet, the new music store at Patel Nagar in West Delhi. A perfect place to pick and choose music at your own leisure. The two listening posts imported from abroad serve as the right place to select your kind of music. The CDs and cassettes, sourced from the dealers and distributors, are stacked neatly under different categories. From popular Indipop, which includes Shaan, Falguni Pathak, and Bhangra Music to Hindi Film soundtracks, which includes new and old movie hits.

As Amit Mehta the owner puts it, "People of all age groups can find their kind of music here. West Delhi does not have a store where you can just go and select your kind of music. You have to go and tell the shopkeeper what number you want. Our belief is that a person should come here, listen to the music according to his/her taste and choose what he/she likes.Ours is a customer friendly shop. It's the first of its kind in West Delhi."

Mehta further elaborates, "The response has been overwhelming. We haven't advertised at all in local cable, or newspapers or distributed pamphlets but still people get attracted. We have plans to advertise in the near future but I feel 'word of mouth' publicity is the best."

For the lovers of Hindi music, there is a section of old Hindi films like Madumati, Don, Professor, Janwar and the golden collection of Asha Bhonsle, Salil Chowdhary, and Lata Mangeshkar etc. There's also the new Hindi film section, which includes unreleased Hindi movies.

An entire section has been totally devoted to Classical/ Devotional songs and Ghazals category which includes artistes like Anup Jalota, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pt Bhimsen Joshi to Kumar Gandharva, Pankaj Udhas, Jagjit Singh and many more.

For value addition, plans are afoot to open a cyber café, to make it a place to hangout for the Generation X. They also have VCDs for the movie freaks. There is no problem of choosing the type of music you like as they are stacked up neatly under different heads. Also two televisions and kiosks showing posters of Shaan, Britney Spears and George Michael create a musical ambience.

According to a student, Ashutosh Wadhwa, "We needed such a place in our area. Being a music lover, I had to go all they way to South Delhi to pick my music at leisure, thank god for this place now!"

The interiors are brightly done up in colours of orange, blue and purple with touches of sky blue and yellow neon boards. Some racks are totally devoted to one famous and special artiste.

In future they plan to call artistes and make the place more happening, plus celebrating special occasions like Valentine's Day.
