The Del(H)icacies

Welcome to Delhi-the gastronomical capital of India! Even if it sounds clichéd, digest it for now, for I'll feed you with more food - for thought, that is! Delhi is a mini India in itself- sharing geographical boundaries with two states and gastronomical boundaries with the other states.

In a style of its own, tastes that speak of itself, cookery styles that vary and the cuisines of Delhi display an array of India's regional cuisines and even a few international cuisines and even the amalgamation or modification of all cuisines into what is called the cooked to your delight!

The gastronomical history of Delhi dates back to the aeons of civilizations that have flourished in and around the erstwhile kingdoms of the North India and the later exposure to the foreign civilizations. After having survived the onslaughts of inbound cultural and social influences today perhaps it is the most cosmopolitan town of the country in terms of its cuisines. Though the city does not boast of fertile agricultural or pasture lands, the best of vegetables & fruits- local and imported and good quality meat products are available.

The cosmopolitan nature of the city is evident from the fact that there is no one single cuisine of the city and it does justice to most dining tastes. Satisfying Delhi's hunger pangs are plush 5-star hotels with their multi-cuisine and speciality restaurants, quality eateries, takeaways, dhabas, home deliveries and the much unheard of authentic eateries of the city.

About the international cuisines available in the city, the less said the better in terms of variety and not authenticity. Though the aim is not to discourage a food-freak, the options are aplenty yet one need to be very choosy in terms of his dining options in Delhi. The flip side of the otherwise enchanting gamut of extravaganza available, most eateries and even the otherwise most popular ones also are sure to betray the expectation. A classic example is of the popular of all foreign cuisines - the Chinese (spelt with an emphatic g in most restaurants). To a Szechwan native it probably serves right, but to all others hailing from any other region of China, it might be an outright mockery. Well in Delhi, do as Delhiites do - cook to their taste - is a lesson Chinese chefs in Delhi have learnt it, though the hard way. Nouvelle cuisine is passé. Fusion is in - the Delhi way! There certainly are excellent Oriental, French, Grill & Snack bars- and are not necessarily synonymous with only the well-advertised hotel food joints.

From mouthfuls of North Delhi's Tibetan momos and sumptuous Dum Pukth or Mughlai , the Kashmiri Goshtaba to the South Indian Avial or the Marathi Dhansak to the Bengali Macher Jhal or South Delhi's sumptuous sea-food. From authentic Punjabi Butter Chicken to Thai, Japanese and everything else in Delhi's gastronomique, we at Newdelhi-best, will guide you through the plush eateries and the by lanes of the walled city to wherever required to bring to you the authenticity of the cosmopolitan Delhi.

The options are aplenty and even next to authentic. So, when in Delhi, keep your hunger pangs alive. And be sure that the too many cooks are sure to spoil your decision-making!
