Model
of the Month - Amrapali Ghosh
Originally
a Calcutta girl, Amrapali Ghosh has been to places!
Made famous by the Nestle advertisement and a few fashion
shows in Delhi and Chennai, this 24-year budding model
has been modelling since her teens.
Working with Lufthansa airlines, Amrapali has been juggling
with her flying career and the ramp asignments in India
and Frankfurt. She emphasises that it is tough but does
not want to leave either of the two plum assignments.
Born and brought up in Calcutta, she turned a Delhiite
seven years ago since she took up a course in the KM College. We
caught her resting in her new posh apartment in South
Extension, bought by with her own money (she specifies),
re-iterates her confidence in herself and god's grace.
Should
you be called a model or an airhostess?
Both together! I will not leave any of them. Modelling
has given me the exposure and flying has taken me to places,
literally. In fact, flying has made it a lot more convenient
for me to co-ordinate from distances as far as Delhi to
Mumbai and Frankfurt. I usually fix up assigments at Mumbai
whever my flight is scheduled for it.
Having been to all places in your flying career, where
do you rate the city of Delhi?
Though I am in India for not more than 25 days, it's always
Delhi for me when I'm 'grounded'. I love this city for
the different things it offers me.
Is it your favourite place?
Naa! I love Ibiza in Spain. I like Delhi for my nostalgic
college life that I cherish.
What else are your interests?
I love dancing. I have been a classical Bharatnatyam dancer
for over 4 years.
Is
there some more latent talent with the model-airhostess-dancer?
Yeah, one more. I am quite okay with learning classical
vocal for over 5 years. I am learning traditional Bengali
songs as well. I have also been doing the furnishings
of my apartment with my architect uncle.
Your favourite places in Delhi...
Djinns and Floats for dancing, Rodeo for eating, GK M
block market for shopping and Dilli Haat for loitering
around.
Going
by the general view, do you think modelling is a short
term career option?
It is right to an extent. But as for me personally, I
think it is more to do with luck. I am very superstitious
and believe that I have started late and without a 'support
system'. I am self-made and I am here and will also have
places to go, if luck shall have it.
Which model do you admire and why?
Naomi Campbell - for her mystery she carries in herself
and that's what I admire in her most.
What else is on the cards with your career?
I am now busy developing an academy for airhostesses amd
modelling in South extension which should be taking off
in a few weeks time.
Wishing you a smooth take-off! Happy flying.
