Paayal
and Leena, the highly acclaimed designer duo and the
brain behind Kaaya, epitomized a rare blend of creativity
and entreprenurship. In a short span of seven years
this duo has carved a distinct niche for themselves.
Now they are set to fashion a precedent of joining hands
with retailers and designers for the first time in India.
Specializing in Bridal wear and Hand embroideries, their
aim is to provide traditional garments for the contemporary,
fashion, and conscious urban Indian women.
The duo has organised fashion shows and events overseas.
The Festival of India in Bangkok, Singapore
and Hong Kong are some. In Delhi they have a
show to their credit every year. They have been hosting
these fashion shows since 1994. Some of them are Enchante,
Nostalgia, Allure of India, Romance of the Floral and
the Kaaya show among many others. They also have the
honour of being the official designer for Miss India-'99
Gul Panag.
They
retail at their own store Kaaya. Paayal Seth is a name
to reckon with in the Jewellery Design industry. Inspired
by the Indian heritage, she has created exquisite gold
and diamond studded jewellery. Each creation speaks
of individuality and authencity. Paayal jewels is connected
to three attributes - Quality, Perfection and Value
for Money. Her designs are popular in India and the
overseas, where she has held exhibitions in Chicago,
London, New York and Paris. Along with Ashima
Leena's ensembles she creates jewellery that is simple,
pure and aesthetic to elevate the woman from being a
mere icon to be admired.
Kaaya is much more than an exclusive woman's fashion
store. Kaaya's team of fashion experts lends its expertise
by customizing the outfits for the customers and advises
them on all the aspects of woman's fashion.
It
has 3 floors, in which the ground floor consists of
accessories and gifts. From purses, handbags, costume
and artificial jewellery to cosmetics, shoes and scarves.
This floor also has a section behind which is the rare
jewellery section by Paayal Seth. The first floor houses
Indian attire - saris, lenghas, suits, salwar kameez,
bangles and bindis.
The second floor has western dresses from Bisou Bisou,
gowns, Trouser- coats and blazer basically western wear.
This floor also houses the café where one can savour
delicious light snacks like croissants, sandwiches,
coffee and salads.
According to Anurag Verma, Manager of Kaaya,
"This café was opened keeping in mind that when women
shop, men tend to get bored. So we thought especially
for our NRI clients. When they come here, they can relax
here after a whole day of shopping with a quick bite.
Some of the designers whose creations are displayed
are Bobby- Manju Grover, Monisha Bajaj, Ritu Beri, Jattin
Kocchar, Manav Gangwani, Puja Nayyar, Abhishek Gupta,
Shaiyyane Malik from Pakistan, Poonam Bhagat, Aki Narula
and Ashima- Leena Singh."
The store is an amalgamation of exclusive women's designer
store and fashion institute. These characteristics of
Kaaya transform it into a concept store, first of its
kind in the Indian fashion industry.
