Initated
in 1969 as an international Indian Machine and Tool
Exhibition, it was started to bring to the fore the
newest developments in this segment, in India and overseas.
Held every three years there have been totally 10 IMTEX
exhibitions organized so far. IMTEX 2001 is the
11th in the series, which was held at Pragati Maidan
from 15th to 22nd January.
The show reflects the development as well as progress
of the world machine tool industry in general and the
Indian machine tool sector in particular. More than 500
Indian as well as 350 exhibitors from 24 nations exhibited
a range of machines that provided complete manufacturing
solutions to a broad spectrum of user Industries. The
exhibition was a showcase of the R& D and innovative
efforts of the Machine Tool Trade from around the world.
It is South East Asia's largest exhibition of machine
tools.
There were machines displayed that are as heavy as 30
tonnes. And according to the organizers, all machines
taken together are valued at over 2,500 million. At the
exhibition, Indian manufacturers of Machine Tools together
with world bearers exhibited their competitive range of
value added manufacturing technology solutions. From the
Indian contingent, the top industry players such as HMT,
Batliboi, Widia (India) were present with their developments
in the last three years. From the global arena, well-known
machine
tool conglomerates taking part were Amada Company,
Seco Tools, AB Sandvik Coromat etc. The cutthroat
competition that was visible at the show revolves around
the latest technological innovations in computer numerically
Controlled (CNC) machines, Electro-Discharge Machines
(EDM's) and Electro Chemical Machines (ECMs) and other
processes as well. As it was the first IMTEX in the new
millennium so it was scheduled in the backdrop of WTO
commitments coming into force in the Indian economy and
the industry, just two and a half months, from today.
According to SG Shirgurkar, President Indian Machine
Tool Manufactures Association (IMTMA) "In
fact, all of this inculcates within us a greater sense
of responsibility to support the rapid industrial development
and economic progress in the country."

of application engineering, as well as low cost automation
options. An event that spurs development of new machines,
and a launch pad for new products. An avenue for sourcing
of components and sub-systems. An opportunity, which helped,
forge partnerships and strategic alliances.
IMPORTANCE
TO USERS -
They witnessed the entire range of manufacturing technology
solutions, live in action, and from all over the world,

were likely to shape the future. A good forum for interaction
with the sellers. A place where purchase decisions and
investment plans were firmed up. IMTEX is a show, which
connects everyone to machine tools; it is the exhibition
where, manufacturers demonstrate how to make better quality
products faster, at lower cost. Users see machines, which
provide better value for money, to derive the benefits
