Sehwag a fairy tale
He
heads the Indian attack force these days as he opens the
batting stylishly smashing balls over the rope. This lad
from Najafgarh believes that if you are talented and hard
working there's no stopping you. "Hope is a good
thing and maybe the best of things," this has more
meaning with Sehwag in perspective, because he is giving
a lot of hope to those young fellows playing on the uncricketing
conditions of Najafgarh; the hope is, if Sehwag could
do it so can I. Must be a cosy feeling to be a reason
for another's hope.
What makes Shewag's style so special?
Of course, his single-minded belief that it doesn't really
matter if the ball is spinning or bouncing or racing towards
him; if it's there, it's meant to be hit. Isn't that one
of the most basic lessons for a batsman? Yes, but a forgotten
one!
It'll be nice to recall at this point the famous
line which read, "Get the Basics right and the rest
will fall in place." Naah
I guess I am humbling
Sehwag's genius a bit by simplifying his talent to the
basic principle. Whatever said and done as it is usually
done, as long as, the Delhi boy beats the ball in the
right spot does it really matter how he does it? Like
you would say it in the National lingo:
"Tu jama-e-ja apna Danda, baaki sab ka funda
hai thanda"
