Tee
off at the NOIDA Golf Course

It is one sport that combines business, pleasure, exercise
and sport. Strangely though it is also one game where
you find more women and elderly gentlemen than you could
anywhere. While one player chips away to glory, even getting
anywhere close to the keen golfers is no mean exercise.
Voted as one of India's top four sporting sites by TimesofIndia.com,
and looking at the number of luxury cars parked outside
at 8 in the morning, the course surely speaks of its popularity.
The NOIDA Golf Course (NGC) houses the precincts
of the monument which marks the spot where the historical
battle of Delhi was fought between the Marathas and the
British as informed by the Deputy Secretary of NGC,
I M Khan. The mound stands visible in the landscape
as a part of the NGC and is now the elevated toe
of the 16th hole.
At the time of the inception in 1989 with 9 holes, NGC
now is an international standard 18-hole facility with
the Greens remodelled to the United States Golfers Standards
Association. The NGC has three restaurants, a bar,
billiards table, Tambola, Bridge, Rummy and newly
introduced Yoga training facilities. They are planning
to set up a swimming pool, a health club, squash courts
and other facilities soon.
The membership base of the Club is a whooping 3400 but
the authorities here inform that in order to develop the
niche clientele there is no membership waiting for the
NRIs and the corporate applicants.
About 25 kms from Connought Place, this Golf Course,
compared to any other, happens to be the best choice in
terms of noise & pollution-free location. The patrons
of NGC are defence officers, executives and businessmen
of South Delhi & Noida and many foreigners as well.
The lush greenery of the 18-hole golf course is
packed within 97 acres of land. It has generally
long holes with evergreen tree lines, water bodies and
dips, slopes and ponds, flowering bushes etc. -- an interesting
array of odds to tease a beginner in golf and to further
hone the golfing skills and sharpen the strokes of a regular
golfer.
The Green fares for Indian residents is Rs.250/- on weekdays
and Rs. 400/- for weekends. Foreigners pay 30 US$ and
40US$ respectively. The foreign nationals earning in INR
can pay in the domestic currency after presenting the
RBI documents. The NGC recently hosted the ONGC Open
Golf Championship and the Padmapat Singhania Golf
Tournament.
