National School of Drama

One of the most elitist drama schools in the country is the National School of Drama. With its headquarters in Delhi, the school is also engaged in various activities all around the country. The School is famous for its three year degree in Dramatics, which takes in only 20 students from all over the country.

It was founded in 1959 by the Sangeet Natak Academy. In 1975, it became an independent unit with complete funding from the government.

It has a very distinguished faculty and alumini. It also has a repertory wing that performs all year through. A children's wing was also introduced with the objective of promoting dramatics among the youngsters. The School also offers fellowships to people interested in the study of traditional and folk forms of various regions in the country, to translate plays, and conduct intensive theatre workshops in rural and remote areas.

The National School of Drama is well known for the media personalities that it has produced. The school is an ideal place for all people interested in realising the true flavour of theatre.

Under this scheme, the fellowship holders are required to work on a variety of projects such as survey of traditional and folk forms of various regions of the country, to translate plays and conduct intensive theatre workshop in remote, rural areas etc. Theatre-in-Education Company, now renamed as Sanskar Rang Toli was established in 1989 with a view to prepare plays and perform them for children and adults at Delhi and neighboring areas.
