One
of the most elitist drama schools in the country is
the National School of Drama. With its headquarters
in Delhi, the school is also engaged in various activities
all around the country. The School is famous for its
three year degree in Dramatics, which takes
in only 20 students from all over the country.
It was founded in 1959 by the Sangeet Natak Academy.
In 1975, it became an independent unit with complete
funding from the government.
It has a very distinguished faculty and alumini.
It also has a repertory wing that performs all year
through. A children's wing was also introduced with
the objective of promoting dramatics among the youngsters.
The School also offers fellowships to people interested
in the study of traditional and folk forms of various
regions in the country, to translate plays, and conduct
intensive theatre workshops in rural and remote areas.
The National School of Drama is well known for the
media personalities that it has produced. The school

the true flavour of theatre.
Under this scheme, the fellowship holders are required
to work on a variety of projects such as survey of
traditional and folk forms of various regions of the
country, to translate plays and conduct intensive
theatre workshop in remote, rural areas etc. Theatre-in-Education
Company, now renamed as Sanskar Rang Toli was
established in 1989 with a view to prepare plays and
perform them for children and adults at Delhi and
neighboring areas.
