Friendship Day

Friendship Day - Ways of celebrating it

Wow great to meet u all !A teacher of class five once asked her students, what is the first thing that comes to their mind in the month of August. One said Independence Day and another one said Rakhi but do you know what most of them told her? Yes, you would have guessed it right - Friendship Day - a day to recognize the value of friendship and the great contribution it makes to our life.

Then the teacher told her students, "If you decide to be a great friend, you would in turn have great friends."

Friends come in many shapes, sizes, guises, age groups and the best part is that you find them in all places... school, college, workplace, home, etc.

They are all my friendsNow, there are many different ways to celebrate Friendship Day and if we are to list all the ways, then it would run into hundreds of pages. However we've thought of some wonderful ways for you to celebrate this day and show your friends how very special they are?

  • Just write a small note and a poem to a good friend

  • Pick up a nice card for your friend, write down how much you appreciate their friendship. Spill out your heart to them as though there is no tomorrow.

  • Buy or make them a small present - flowers, chocolates, friendship bands or anything that catches your imagination. Stores like Archie's and Hallmark have made it easy for us to pick up all the things and if you love to get a friendship band, which is unique, then just drop into any of the bangle stores in the market

  • Give your closest friend a nice hug if you're really comfortable doing that. It might mean much more than giving a gift.

  • Make it a point to call every one of your friends on Friendship Day to let them know you care

  • Invite your closest buddies for a stay over! Rent some movies and freak out on popcorn, chocolate and all forms of unhealthy food! Go outside, take some blankets along and watch the stars.

  • Plan something special with your best friend or friends group. A picnic is always a fun idea, and great for all ages. If you're physically inclined, try activities like bowling, crazy golf, trekking and cricket.

  • If you're all busy during the day, plan to go out to dinner with your friend(s)

  • Host a Friendship Dinner Party and let your hair down!

Unity is strengthVyashali a student doing her graduation in one of the prestigious colleges in New Delhi says, "I do not believe in all these days. It is we who create them and nowadays the youth are bombarded with the western culture and we tend to just copy them without even giving it a second thought". She's got a point there. The choice is yours.

Karthik, a 3rd standard student says excitedly, "I save money to buy friendship bands for all my friends and in turn I will also get a lot of gifts from my friends".

Remember, Friendship Day happens only once a year. So make the most of it! Pull out all the stops and make your friends know they are truly appreciated.

  • A friend is like a shade tree beside a summer way.

  • A friend is like sunshine that makes a perfect day

  • A friend is like a flower that's worn close to the heart

  • A friend is like a treasure which one will not part.

Happy Friendship Day to all our readers from the New Delhi best team
