 The Department of Industrial Development 


The Department of Industrial Development was first constituted in 1967 in the then Ministry of Industrial Development & Company Affairs. In 1973 the Ministry was renamed as the Ministry of Industrial Development. With the addition of some other departments in 1974 the name was changed to Ministry of Industry & Civil Supplies. This was changed to the Ministry of Industry in 1976 which comprised the Departments of Industrial Development and Heavy Industry. In 1990, the Ministry was expanded to include the newly created Department of Small Scale Industries and Agro and Rural Industries (SSI&ARI). The Bureau of Public Enterprises was also detached from the Ministry of Finance and included in the Ministry as the Department of Public Enterprises. In March, 1995 the Department of Industrial Development was split and another department, namely the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion was carved out of it. The Department of Industrial Development is mainly concerned with Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), National Renewal Fund, Productivity, Quality, Standards, R&D in automobile, cement & building and rubber, industrial environmental management including waste management as also regulatory aspects relating to boilers and explosives.

  • Indian Rubber Manufacturers Research Association (IRMRA)

ASSOCHAM has a membership of about 65,000 direct and indirect corporate enterprises. A managing committee of 108 members governs the affairs of ASSOCHAM. Its goals include developing a genuine government - business partnership, achieving integration with global economy, encouraging synergy between small, medium and large enterprises, promoting modernization of business, etc. It conducts seminars, conferences, business meetings and missions and ensures regular interaction with policy makers at Center and State government levels. Established in 1895, CII's principal aim is to strengthen industry's role in the economic development of the country and to integrate the Indian industry with world economy. Towards this end, CII works towards creating awareness and supporting industry efforts on quality, environment and consumer protection. It operates through National / Regional / State and Zonal Councils. It has specialized Industry Divisions and Affiliated Associations/ Institutions. CII has 3,000 member companies. CII is represented on all major policy making bodies concerning industry and provides up-to-date information to both, industry and government on a vast number of subjects.  Delhi Chamber of Commerce  

Delhi chamber of commerce was started early in 1949 and was incorporated under section 26 of the Indian companies act, vii of 1913 (a company limited by guarantee u/s 26 i.c. act) on 19th January, 1950. This Chamber is 50 years old and is recognized organization of commercial opinion and is consulted by the Government of India, and State Governments on all vital and important commercial matters. The Committee of the Chamber is brings to the notice of the Government of India and the State Government legitimate grievances of the commercial community and to represent them for enactment of laws for the protection of the Commerce and Industry of the country. This Chamber is a member of International Chamber Of Commerce India (Paris) and represents on its Executive Committee. The Chamber is member of the Federation Of Indian Chambers Of Commerce & Industry (FICA) which is the Central Organization of the Commerce & Industry of the Country. This Chamber is also a member of the Indian Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) and Delhi Productivity Council (DPC).

 Federation Of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry  

Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has been playing a catalytic role in the economic development of the country since 1927. It represents a nationwide network of regional, state and local chambers of commerce and industry, trade and industry associations, professional institutions, bi-national chambers of commerce, corporate bodies and private firms.  Federation of Indian Export Organizations  

Set up in October, 1965, the Federation works as a partner of the Government of India to promote India's international trade. FIEO represents directly or indirectly, over 100,000 exporters across India. Exports by FIEO members comprise a wide spectrum of products. FIEO has forged strong links with counterpart organizations in several countries as well as international agencies to enable direct communication and interaction between India and world businessmen.  Department of Agricultural Cooperation  

The Department of Agriculture and Cooperation is responsible for the formulation and implementation of National policies and programmes aimed at achieving rapid agricultural growth through optimum utilization of the country's land, water, soil and plant resources. It undertakes all possible measures to ensure timely and adequate supply of inputs and services such as fertilizers, seeds pesticides, agricultural implements and also provides agricultural credit, crops insurance and ensures remunerative returns to the farmer for his agricultural produce. The Department is also entrusted with the responsibility of collection and maintenance of a wide range of statistical and economic data relating to agriculture, required for development planning, organizing agricultural census, assisting and advising the States in undertaking scarcity relief measures and in management of natural calamities e.g. flood, drought, cyclone, etc. Matters relating to formulation of overall cooperative policy in the country, national cooperative organisations, cooperative training and education come under the preview of the Department. It also participates in activities of international organizations, for fostering bilateral cooperation in agricultural and allied sectors and for promotion of export in agricultural commodities.
