The ministry of
Agriculture is divided into four sections.
1. Department of Agriculture and Co-operation
2. Department of Agricultural Research & Education
3. Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying
4. Department of Food Processing Industries
The Department of Agriculture and Co-operation
is concerned with the rapid agricultural growth
through optimum utilization of the country's resources.
It tries to achieve this by formulating and implementing
policies, which can escalate the kind of growth desired.
The Department of Agricultural Research & Education
is concerned with research, education, training and
transfer of technology for the advancement of agriculture
and allied sciences.
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying looks
into livestock production, preservation, protection
and improvement of stocks and dairy development. The
Delhi Milk Scheme and the National Dairy Development
Board are the responsibility of this ministry. |

| Ministry
of Power |
Initially called
as the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Power came
into effect on 2nd July 1992. The Ministry of
Power is mainly concerned with the formulating and
implementing power projects. It also handles the
training and development of manpower. This ministry
takes up the responsibilities of thermal and hydel power
projects. It looks into research, development and technical
assistance relating to hydroelectric, thermal and transmission
system network.

| Ministry
of Science and Technology |
The Ministry
of Science and Technology was formed on 4th January
1985. The ministry contains three departments.
1. Department of Science and Technology
2. Department of Scientific and Industrial Research
3. Department of Biotechnology
The main aim of the Department of Science and
Technology is to promote new areas of Science and
Technology, to organize and promote S&T activities in
the country.
The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research
consists of the following departments.

| Ministry
of Environment and Forests |
The main function
of the Ministry of Environment and Forests is to plan,
promote and co-ordinate all environmental and forestry
programmes. The principal activities are conservation
and survey of flora and fauna, forests and wildlife,
prevention & control of pollution, afforestation & regeneration
of degraded areas and protection of environment. The
Ministry goes about this through surveys, pollution
control, regeneration programmes, collecting and dissemination
of information and creating environmental awareness
among the people.

| Ministry
of Civil Aviation |
The most important
function of the Ministry of Civil Aviation is the formulation
of national policies, programmes for the development
and regulation of Civil Aviation. Its functions
extend to the administration of the airport,
which includes airport facilities, air traffic services,
and carriage of passengers and goods by air. The ministry
is also administratively responsible for the commission
of Railways Safety.

Ministry of Space |
|
The Space Commission and Department of Space (DOS)
was set up in June 1972. Under this ministry
comes the famous ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization).
The ISRO executes space programs through its various
headquarters. Space programs include development of
satellites, launch vehicles, sounding rockets, and
associated ground systems. The space systems currently
operational are the INSAT (Indian National
Satellite) for telecommunication, television broadcasting,
meteorology and disaster warning; and the IRS
(Indian Remote Sensing Satellite) for resources monitoring
and management. The other space systems are PSLV
(Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) and GSLV (Geosynchronous
Satellite Launch Vehicle).
